Just days before the May long weekend, fire bans have been imposed for forested areas of Alberta due to the extremely dry conditions and the large number of wildfires burning in the province. Wildfire Information officer Whitney Exton tells The Morning News on QR77 that there are 50 wildfires burning as of Tuesday morning, 3 of which are out of control. Exton says the fire ban does not apply to all fires. However, in the Rocky View County, which surrounds Calgary from the north, east and west, the fire ban is stricter, with all fires banned until further notice.
