There have certainly been better days for those who labour with love at the Calgary Zoo. The death of a hippo in transit to Calgary and this weekend's sudden passing of 34 cownose rays in the newest exhibit have animal rights groups wondering what's going on and whether someone from the outside needs to ask that question rather than the Zoo conducting it's own investigation. Having spent a morning broadcasting from that exhibit and meeting the people charged with their care, I have no doubt that all care was taken in bringing the rays into their home. But the mystery of all these animals dying at once does need an explanation and if it takes an outside inquiry to satisfy critics, then so be it. The important thing is to find out why to make sure it doesn't happen again. But that could just be me Dan Carson...

field of Child Development and Human Relations.' The clerk paused,
ball-point pen frozen in midair and looked up as though she had not heard
right. I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most
significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my
pronouncement was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. 'Might
I ask,' said the clerk with new interest,'just what you do in your field?' Coolly,

In the first three months of this year, Calgary police check stops have nabbed 18 per cent more drunk drivers than in the first three months of last year! So if you thought last year's numbers were encouraging, think again. As the police say, there are hardcore drink and drivers out there that just know better than the law does. The biggest reason cops caught more this year is that they finally had fully staffed check stops. One drink is too many if you're driving. How simple can it get? But that could just be me Dan Carson...
