2017 was a great year for Country 105. From concerts like Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton, and contests like The Cash Cow and Island Escape to Maui, it was a pretty great year to be apart of the Country 105 family.
Caring For Kids Radiothon
Country 105 Caring For Kids Radiothon 2017 was a huge success. As we raised $1.78 million dollars for the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
Over the three day live broadcast we got to hear many inspiring stories from the kids who are in a battle against serious injuries and illnesses.
It was truly inspiring to see the whole community come together for these kids and help share the message of hope.
Listening to the song “Kiss a Girl” by Keith Urban is not in any books a chore, but if you heard it on our radio station and called in you had a chance to win the Tennessee Takeover.
Country 105 took a plane full of lucky listeners, plus one guest, to the home of country music, Nashville, to get a private show from the one and only Keith Urban.
Hot Rod Harriet Joins the Scott Phillips Drive Show
What is Country 105 without the beautiful and talented Miss Hot Rod Harriet. After leaving for her second maternity leave, her beautiful laughter rejoined the airways in early May as she joined the Scott Phillips drive show.
Hot Rod Harriet at the Calgary Baby & Tot Show with Max and Ruby!
The Calgary Stampede
Country 105 was bringing its listeners live coverage straight from the grounds for all 10 days of the greatest outdoor show on earth.
We really got the full Calgary Stampede experience, from getting a chance to win a lottery dream home or getting to see the Stampede Rodeo, there was so much to do this year, including eating deep fried chicken feet! We were also at every concert and event that involved country music, if there was a guitar and a cowboy hat we were there.
Country Thunder 2017
Fans of film have the Sundance Film Festival, fans of country music have Country Thunder.
Brad Paisley was the first headliner and amazed audiences when he picked a young girl from the crowd and gave her his guitar. So cute!
But nothing compared to Blake Shelton who played well over his set time and entertained the audience for hours. People sang along to Sangria and cheered as he played hill billy bone. There wasn’t one person who didn’t know every word to almost every song.
This weekend brought together the country music fans for a fun three day festival that truly represented the community of country music.
Garth Brooks Takes Over Country 105
When Garth Brooks came to town he not only took over our hearts, but he took over our entire station.
For the two weeks he was here we were no longer Country 105, but instead Garth 105!
The man sold out 14 concerts and there wasn’t a single person in Calgary who wasn’t trying to get those tickets. Our lucky listeners even got to take their photo with Garth, or at least the cardboard cut out we had of him. We had contests that ranged from calling in, to trying to crack our ticket vault, we wanted to give everyone the chance to see Mr. Brooks.
Cash Cow Contest
A fan favorite contest, Cash Cow, gave listeners the opportunity to win a lot of money, without doing much.
By simply calling in Calgarians could “milk” the cash cow and hope that he doesn’t kick the bucket over. The longer the call lasted the more money the listener won, but if they stayed on too long they risked loosing it all.
Winners won prizes from $70 to as high as $700. You never know with the Cash Cow.
Island Escape To Maui
The Odd Squad took 18 winners, plus guests, on a Island Escape To Maui. To win all you had to do was listen in for your cue to call everyday, and hope to be caller 10. Winners flew with WestJet to the beautiful island, stay at the Sheraton Maui Resort, and had an exclusive private concert with Old Dominion!
90s Songs in 90 Seconds
Lindsay Rae challenged some of her musical friends to play 90’s songs in 90 seconds. A game, which Lindsay came up with, gives players 90 seconds to finish the lyrics of famous country songs from the 90’s.
Watch Leaving Thomas, Wes Mack and even Brett Kissel try to remember the lyrics to their favourite songs.
Brett currently holds the title of champion, but we will see who will claim it in 2018.
