It was another raging success this year for the Calgary Hitmen’s 23rd annual Teddy Bear Toss! Calgarians and members of surrounding communities let those stuffies fly during the first period of their game against Moose Jaw yesterday.
The cue to toss is always the first goal from the Hitmen’s side, and this year it came from defenseman Vladislav Yeryomenko.
The grand total of Teddy Bears tossed this year came to 24,605! That brings the grand total from 1995 on, to 347,948.
They had to take a 35-minute break from the game to get all the stuffies up and into the trucks!
The beloved annual event takes in thousands of stuffed animals each year and distributes them to over 60 local agencies including the Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Salvation Army.
The Hitmen may have lost the game to Moose Jaw, 6-3, but I think they felt like yesterday was a win for everyone.
