Fans of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones can now dress like some of their favourite characters. The show’s costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that even though the series has a good costume budget, she makes the most of good discount finds by using rugs from Ikea for some of the costumes. She says her team distresses the wool rugs from Ikea to create a truly authentic look. “We cut and we shaved them, and then we added strong leather straps and then break down, which is like a religion on Game of Thrones” she said. “I want the audience to almost smell the costumes; here they were waxed and frosted so that they belonged to the landscape.”
Ikea, for their part, were so pleased with the product mention that they have since released a fun pictorial guide on how to make your own Jon Snow cape. Ikea called the product Vinter Skuldervarmer, which roughly translates to “Winter Shoulder Warmer” (h/t Google Translate).
