Overheard en route to Bull Busting…”I just love cowboys! This is like Christmas for me.”
A new take on the phrase Cowboy Christmas, usually used to describe the lucrative Stampede Rodeo season but hardly an unshared opinion. Festivals have not only traditionally celebrated a change of seasons or a characteristic that’s part of the community…like our look back at the Western lifestyle during the first week of July…but festivals have also long served as a way to bring the young people together and let nature take it’s course, therefore perpetuating the species.
So it’s traditional to let inhibitions go at this time of year and of course, some let things get out of control, leading to a spike in the divorce rate in Calgary late in July.
The heat wave for at least the opening weekend with accompanying alcohol and pheremones flying everywhere you go could lead to a night you won’t forget. As in, “that was the night I screwed up my relationship” type memories.
Have fun Stampeding for sure but keep your wits about you. Take it from one who knows, there’s nothing romantic about a port-a-potty. Yahoo!!
