Rachel Graham is from Nova Scotia. She is a wife, she is the mother of two sweet boys and she is also a daily inspiration to almost 200,000 loyal Instagram followers, countless internet users, friends and family.
Her real lifestyle change began in June 2015, despite having wanted to lose weight since she gave birth to her first son in 2009. I asked Rachel when she realized that she wanted to change and she told me, “My blood pressure was high, I was depressed and I got out of breath doing every day tasks. I lacked energy and motivation to really do much of anything. I realized that I didn’t want my kids to look back later in life and remember me sitting on the sidelines. I wanted to be able to run with them, to play, to be healthy for both myself and for them!”
So how exactly did she lose the weight? Her short answer is exercise and healthy food! Despite what internet trolls have claimed, Rachel has lost the weight by staying motivated and pushing herself. No pills. No drugs. No wraps. No gimmicks. This Super-Mamma has earned her success, every step of the way.
The long answer to how she lost weight is through calorie counting, eating (mostly) health foods, portion control, and exercise. “There are so many ways to get exercise in without a gym membership. I have spent so much time walking with my kids. I ran up and down stairs/hills while they played. Jumping jacks. Lunges. Jogged laps around my car while my son snoozed inside of it. I did the 30 day shred from home. I danced with my kids. And walked, walked, walked some more. I didn’t ever have a daily “plan” except for when I was doing the shred. I focused on being active and getting my Fitbit steps in.”
Q: How did you start the process of losing weight?
A: Rachel told me that she started the process of losing weight by increasing her intake of water daily. She said that she went from drinking 4-5 cans of diet soda a day and changed that to water. She stressed that she calorie counted to assure that she wasn’t eating too much food but also that she was getting enough.
Q: What keeps you motivated?
A: “Honestly, feeling healthier is amazing motivation. The same stairs that I used to get winded climbing, I can run up now without feeling short of breath. I have more desire to be social, and I just feel better! That is so motivating.” Rachel also mentioned that looking through old pictures helps her to see just how far she’s come.
Q: Do you have advice for anyone trying to lose weight and get healthy?
A: Rachel said that starting her Instagram account was extremely influential in motivating her to meet her weight loss goals. “I felt more accountable with others watching my journey, and have found it to be an amazing community of support!” She also said to get rid of the notion that “quick fix” weight loss options are beneficial.
Q: What are your goals for the future?
A: “To reach 100 pounds lost and continue strength building!”
