“Wearing a hospital gown is like being in the hospital…there’s nothing good about it.” -Butch
Many hospitalized teens feel as though their identity has been stripped away by the hospital gowns that they have to wear. One young girl from the video describes wearing her gown as being classified as “just your illness”. The Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada decided to start the WARD + ROBES initiative which partners with top designers to create unique hospital gowns for teens to wear.
Izzy Camilleri is one of the Fashion Designer’s featured in the video. She has worked with such talent as David Bowie and Meryl Streep but she says that this initiative means so much more.
One teary-eyed teen told the camera, “When I first saw the new gowns I saw empowerment in teenagers in a place where they don’t have any.” The transition in the video to when the teens receive their new and unique gowns is truly remarkable to watch. Just see for yourself…
“It’s time to give hospitalized teens a chance to be themselves.”
