Just over two weeks ago, the spotlights came on in the Saddledome and – amid much expectation – the 2014-15 version of the Flames debuted with a dud against the Canucks. And things have gone downhill from there, so much so that a mere 6 games into the 82 game season, concern has become full fledged panic.
Goalie Karri Ramo was the first to go in an effort to shock the team back to it’s game. Ramo was inconsistent but not the only reason the Flames were 1-5 after 6 games. Aside from a couple of good games right off the bat from Johnny Gaudreau, this team doesn’t look anything like the #neverquit guys of last season.
It may seem absurd to say at this point that the season id already in peril, but with the points system in the NHL making it very hard to make up ground once you get behind, American Thanksgiving has become the milestone. Yes, six weeks in and if you’re not sitting in a playoff berth by then, good chance your season is over.
Mix in six games in nine nights starting tonight that could be crushing and you can see why Flames management is in a tizzy. Last season’s afterglow is gone, and if the team doesn’t make a major turnaround, being a playoff team in the west may be as well.
But that could just be me…..What do you think the Flames affliction has been so far and can they recover?
