During the Brier here in Calgary I mc’d a charity auction for Curling Canada. Little did I know that night I’d get caught up in the bidding for dinner with Olympians Cheryl Bernard, Ben Hebert and John Morris hosted by Chef Michael Noble at his new restaurant in Inglewood The Nash.
Dinner was last night, and it was amazing. Chef prepared a menu for us and paired the 4 courses with some terrific wine. Listening to him describe each plate of art placed before us, you could hear the passion he has for his craft. He opened Notable in Montgomery a few years ago and the new restaurant is in the old National Hotel building on 9th ave. I highly recommend either.
The conversation was casual and we talked cooking, curling, golf, Team Ulsrud dropping their pants at the Continental Cup and why I needed to go to Vegas next year for the event.
Fans of the sport will know that Cheryl has moved from the ice to the booth and her story of her nervousness and then growth through the season was inspiring. Even more so is that Cheryl is climbing Kilimanjaro next month to raise awareness for World Vision. Ben and John are those two guys you’d love to spend more time with, and by the way they’re both big country fans. Sorry about bringing up that throw through by The Bear against Scotland Ben.
I invited Susan who bid against me at the auction and her boyfriend Jamie Bourassa who is a world class ice maker and has traveled the world making the ice the curlers play on.
Robyn has given me hell for not taking “foodie pictures” but I didn’t want to be “that guy”
besides almost licking the plates was gauche enough
Thanks to some old and new friends and to Chef Noble and the team at the Nash for a night to remember
