I know this topic always gets people going but I’m curious about your opinion. Unhealthy or sugary snacks in schools. Where do you stand?
After reading this story today it got me thinking about where I stand on the subject, and here’s what I think. I think schools should offer only healthy choices in their cafeteria’s and vending machines. For those students bringing their lunches to school…well that’s up to them, or their parents. Obviously these schools are trying to teach their students about nutrition, and that’s awesome. So to have a concerned teacher about a child’s poor eating habits, I think that’s pretty cool too. But to have a staff member confiscate a can of pop or a candy bar from a student, I think that maybe crosses a line.
Unfortunately, junk food is cheap. Maybe that’s what a family can afford that week. You never know, so to take it away could be insulting.
Anyway, my stance on this whole thing is: healthy options only in schools, but what you pack in your or your child’s lunch is up to you.
